GUARDIANSHIP

A guardianship is a court appointment that gives one person the legal authority to make decisions for another who is unable to do so safely on their own. Guardianships are used to protect vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those affected by mental health conditions or addiction. Kalabokis Law helps families evaluate whether guardianship is appropriate, prepares the necessary court filings, and guides clients through the process from start to finish.

Guardianship of an Incapacitated Adult

Adult guardianships are often sought for elderly individuals or adults struggling with mental illness, cognitive decline, or substance use disorders. These cases focus on protecting the individual while preserving as much independence as possible. Our Massachusetts attorneys help represent families and proposed guardians, helping present clear evidence to the court while advocating for the least restrictive arrangement possible.

Conservatorship

Conservatorships are sought for the same reasoning as Guardianships but are for the purpose of managing an individual’s financial affairs and assets. Conservatorships are often paired with guardianships, which address personal and medical decision-making. Kalabokis Law helps clients determine when a conservatorship is appropriate and guides them through the court process to ensure financial matters are properly protected and managed.

Related Proceedings

Guardianship matters often intersect with broader challenges, including mental health concerns, substance use issues, and other non-legal needs. Kalabokis Law understands that legal solutions alone are not always enough. We work closely with a network of trusted community partners, service providers, and support organizations to help clients access comprehensive care and resources. Our goal is to support individuals and families holistically, addressing both the legal issues and the underlying needs that impact long-term stability and well-being.
